What is a backflow prevention device?
Protecting the fresh drinking water throughout Sydney is everyone’s responsibility. One of the ways this is achieved through backflow prevention devices which are fitted to everything from your garden tap, your home water meter, and toilet.
Properties or businesses with larger water supply requirements (large meter), an unmetered water connection or those who have a higher risk of contaminating the water supply must have a separate backflow device installed.
The properties hazard rating will determine the type of device installed:
- Hazard rating high - reduced pressure zone device
- Hazard rating high - break tank/air gap
- Hazard rating medium - testable double check valve
These devices are required to be tested each year from installation by a licenced backflow plumber.
