Toilet installation

Whether you are renovating an existing home or building a new one, a good toilet system can save you money on your water bill. All new toilet systems have dual flush which allows you to use less water per flush to ensure that you are not only saving on water but money as well.

Taps and spouts

If you want to keep your old taps and spout or get completely new ones, the choice is up to you. If you decide to use your old taps ensure to replace all of the washers and check the lines for any corrosion. If there is corrosion it is easier to replace it when it isn't connected to your sink or vanity unit.

Showerheads

Water-efficient shower heads have become a must in new homes as they reduce wasted water and save on water bills. The minimum requirement for showerheads is a flow rate of no more than 9 litres per minute.

Note: Flow rates need to be certified during the approval process. If you are not sure of the flow rate of showerheads in your development you should select the least efficient flow rate (more than 7.5 litres per minute but not more than 9.0 litres per minute).

Hot water systems

There are so many different types of hot water systems out there, the two main variants are either electric or gas. Both types of hot water systems have sub-variants such as but not limited to:

  • Recirculation Systems - Circulates the water in the hot water pipes back to the water heating system until the hot water at the fixture reaches the set temperature. In these types of systems, all of the water is saved.
  • On-demand - Hot water recirculation systems are triggered by the operation of either the hot water tap, a switch or a sensor. This system uses a fair amount of additional energy to run the circulation pump.
  • Continuous - Hot water circulates continuously or for a period of time each day that is set on a timer.
  • Instantaneous - Water flow is detected via a sensor that ignites the gas burner, which heats the water in the heat exchanger. The water then follows through the heat exchanger, absorbing as much heat as possible.

Rainwater Tanks

Water collected from non-trafficable roof areas is classed as rainwater. The rainwater tank is designed to capture and store the rainwater collected from all of your roof catchment areas including garages and sheds. NSW Health allows the use of rainwater tanks for:

  • Toilet Flushing
  • Washing Clothes
  • Hot Water Systems
  • Garden Watering
  • Car Washing
  • Filling Swimming Pools
  • Outdoor Spas
  • and Ornamental Ponds

Gas appliances

In order to have gas appliances installed in your home, you will need all of the gas piping and bayonets installed first. Once you have it all installed then you can install your new gas appliance. It is advised to get a gas compliance certificate as soon as the work is completed.

Did you know: All licenced gas fitters are also licenced plumbers but not all licenced plumbers are licenced gas fitters. Keep this in mind when you looking at getting your gas installed, serviced or repaired.

Pipe laying

Ensure that all of your pipes are laid exactly where they need to be before you have your slab poured. Mistakes in this part of a build can result in a total redesign of the inside of your home. If you are renovating a preexisting house and want to change the plumbing fixture positions keep in mind that this will be a big job as the entire room will have to be completely pulled to pieces to get to all of the piping. Once the fixtures have been moved then you will have to get the room waterproofed and tiles re-laid. This will be a lengthy and expensive process, sometimes it is easier to change the cabinetry and paint the pre-existing tiles.
